Chidi Odinkalu Reacts After He Saw Document Showing The Amount Those Applying To Become SAN Will Pay

Nigerian lawyer and human rights activist, Prof Chidi Odinkalu has reacted after he saw a document showing the amount that those applying to become Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN will pay.

The reaction of Chidi Odinkalu was contained in a post that he shared on his official X handle on October 27, 2025.

In the document that was titled “2026 Award Of The Bank Of Senior Advocate Of Nigeria”, the applicants working in the private sectors were told to pay N5 million while those employed by the government were told to pay N2.5 million.

According to the document;

“Applicants are required to pay a nonrefundable fee as follows; N5 million for legal practitioners in private practice. N2.5 million for legal practitioners employed in government service”.

However, Chidi Odinkalu has now shared his thoughts after the report surfaced online. In a post that he shared on his official X handle, he said how do they expect an honest public servant to get the money.

The human rights activist stated that very soon, they will price it into extinction.

Here is what the human rights activist wrote on his official X handle;

“The next round of applications to become SAN in Nigeria will cost practitioners N5m non-refundable. Public servants interested will cough up N2.5m. Please, how do they expect an honest public servant to find this? Very soon they will price SAN into extinction”.
