Kanu: We’ve Seen Him Tell A Lawyer In Court That Shut Up, You Don’t Talk When I’m Talking — Oshoma

Public interest lawyer Liborous Oshoma has revealed that Nnamdi Kanu once told one of his lawyers to shut up during a court session, warning him not to speak while he was talking. Oshoma made this revelation during an interview with TVC News while reacting to the recent withdrawal of Kanu’s lawyers and his decision to defend himself in court.

Oshoma said he was not surprised by Kanu’s latest move, explaining that tensions had been brewing since some junior lawyers participated in the Free Nnamdi Kanu protest, even though a specific date had been fixed for opening his defense.

He noted that such actions likely caused friction between Kanu and his lawyers, leading to their withdrawal. According to Oshoma, similar situations had occurred in the past when senior advocates like Mike Ozekhome also left the case under controversial circumstances.

He acknowledged that Kanu’s decision to represent himself is legally right, but he warned that self-representation comes with serious challenges.

In his words, “We’ve seen Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, we saw some senior advocates come into this matter before, people like Ozekhome, who are no longer in the matter, who for one reason or another also left unceremoniously like this. And we’ve also seen him tell a lawyer in court that shut up, you don’t talk when I’m talking.”

“So it is against that background that I feel that certainly the moment that Monday event happened, I knew that all of this would play out, and so I’m not surprised that Namdi Kanu has sacked his lawyer, and then he opted to defend himself.
