Justice Omotosho Signs Witness Summons for Wike, 22 Others in Nnamdi Kanu’s Terrorism Trial

According to a report by Punch on Thursday, October 23, 2025, Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja has approved and signed witness summons requested by Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), for his ongoing terrorism trial. The summons, directed at 23 individuals, including the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, are ready for collection and service to compel their appearance as witnesses.

Justice Omotosho announced this development in open court on Thursday, October 23, 2025, confirming that Kanu’s request had been granted and the summons prepared for dispatch.

Among those summoned are Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and two former Chiefs of Army Staff, General T.Y. Danjuma and Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai. These high-profile figures are expected to provide testimony in Kanu’s defense against charges of terrorism and treasonable felony brought by the Federal Government. The court’s decision marks a significant step in ensuring Kanu’s right to call witnesses in his defense, a critical aspect of a fair trial.

Kanu, detained since his arrest and extradition in June 2021, has maintained that the testimonies of these individuals are vital to his case. The inclusion of senior political and military figures suggests that his defense may focus on alleged state actions or policies relevant to the charges.
