Even If Fubara Contests For Councillorship In His Village, Nobody Will Vote For Him Again – Akpobari

Public affairs analyst Celestine Akpobari has criticised Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, claiming that his recent political decisions have damaged his relationship with the people who elected him.

Akpobari made the remarks during an interview on Arise News, where he discussed the political situation in Rivers State and the governor’s reported decision to step aside from the 2027 governorship race and support another candidate.

According to the analyst, Fubara has failed to demonstrate the independence expected of a governor elected by the people. He argued that instead of prioritising the interests and wishes of Rivers residents, the governor has continued to take instructions from an individual he referred to as his “oga.”

Akpobari described the situation as a betrayal of the mandate given to Fubara by the electorate, arguing that the governor’s actions have seriously damaged his political standing.

Emphasising how much he believes the governor has lost public support, Akpobari declared that even if Fubara decided to contest for councillorship in his own village, nobody would vote for him again.

The analyst also raised concerns about the political marginalisation of the Ogoni people, arguing that despite the region’s contributions to the state’s economy, its people have not received adequate recognition in the leadership structure.

He further maintained that genuine peace in Ogoni land would require the government to address longstanding grievances, including environmental concerns and political exclusion, rather than relying only on negotiations and inducements.

Akpobari’s comments reflect his criticism of Fubara’s political decisions and his assessment of the governor’s standing among Rivers people.
