According to a report by Anadolu Agency on Tuesday August 04, 2026, Tehran experienced the most severe destruction in Iran during the 40-day conflict with the United States and Israel, with more than 50,000 residential units damaged and hundreds of strikes reported across the capital, according to a municipal report released on Monday.
The findings, presented during an event hosted by the University of Tehran’s Faculty of Urban Planning, provide one of the most detailed assessments of the impact of the conflict on the city.
According to Tehran Municipality’s Urban Planning and Architecture Department, the capital recorded around 650 reported strikes during the fighting. District 4 in northeastern Tehran suffered the highest number of attacks, followed by District 21 in the west, District 1 in the north, and District 22 in the northwest.
“The number of strikes in District 4 alone exceeded the combined total recorded in some provinces,” said Hossein Nouhi, a certified construction expert with Tehran Municipality.
The report stated that District 4 was hit 90 times, while District 21 recorded 62 strikes, District 1 recorded 57, and District 22 recorded 55. District 17 in southwestern Tehran experienced the fewest attacks, with three reported strikes.
Municipal officials said 50,849 homes were damaged, ranging from minor issues such as broken windows and doors to complete destruction. Around 40,000 homes required limited repairs, while 8,900 suffered major architectural damage. A total of 415 buildings needed structural reinforcement or reconstruction, and 2,042 homes were completely destroyed.
Nouhi estimated the economic losses from the conflict at approximately $280 billion, excluding psychological effects and industrial recovery costs.
