According to a report by Daily Post, on Saturday, August 1, 2026, former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, strongly criticised former President Olusegun Obasanjo, insisting that the former Nigerian leader no longer possesses the political influence capable of determining the outcome of future elections, particularly the 2027 presidential poll.
Frank made the remarks in a statement released on Friday while responding to Obasanjo’s recent comments concerning the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Frank alleged that Obasanjo has developed a consistent pattern of publicly attacking Atiku whenever Nigeria approaches another general election.
He argued that instead of openly promoting any candidate he supports, the former president has repeatedly chosen to direct criticism at his former deputy.
According to Frank, Obasanjo has over the years continued to attribute the shortcomings of the administration they once served in together to Atiku, portraying him as responsible for past failures.
He described this recurring criticism as a familiar political routine that surfaces whenever election campaigns begin to gather momentum.
Frank maintained that Nigerians have become accustomed to Obasanjo’s repeated remarks against Atiku and no longer consider such statements capable of influencing public opinion or changing voting decisions.
He argued that the former president’s repeated interventions have gradually lost their political impact because the electorate is now more focused on issues affecting their daily lives than on long-standing political disagreements.
He further asserted that Obasanjo’s political endorsements have not translated into electoral victories for candidates he has supported in previous elections.
Based on that record, Frank claimed that the former president’s political relevance has diminished significantly.
He went on to challenge Obasanjo to openly identify and campaign for any candidate he truly believes deserves public support instead of repeatedly directing his attention toward Atiku.
Frank argued that if the former president has a preferred aspirant, he should present that individual to Nigerians and allow voters to make their own judgment.
Frank also urged the former president to devote more attention to assessing the performance of the current administration rather than continually making Atiku the focal point of his political commentary.
He insisted that Nigeria’s pressing concerns require greater scrutiny of those presently in government instead of constant attacks on an opposition figure.
He said, “If it is destined for Atiku to become President, neither you nor anyone else can stop it.”
Concluding his remarks, Frank stressed that the decision on who eventually emerges as Nigeria’s next president rests entirely with the electorate.
