During Diezani’s Time, Everybody Was Calling Her Name, But Kyari Didn’t Appear Before Senate-Oshoma

Lawyer and public affairs analyst Liborous Oshoma has criticised former Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, over what he described as the lack of public accountability amid ongoing corruption allegations involving the state-owned oil company.

Speaking during an interview on Arise News on Saturday, 18 July, 2026, Oshoma compared the current situation with the era of former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

According to him, allegations during Diezani’s tenure focused heavily on her influence and personal responsibility, whereas similar scrutiny has not been directed at Kyari despite questions being raised about the NNPC’s financial dealings.

Oshoma said, “During Diezani’s time, people said that she had a larger than life influence on the board, that’s why everybody was calling her name. But the same Mele Kyari, not even the courtesy of appearing before the Senate or even responding with a detailed explanation. Now they are telling us the money is not missing, all we just need is explanation.”

He maintained that transparency requires public officials entrusted with managing critical national institutions to personally address concerns whenever questions arise about public funds.
