A teacher at one of the schools affected by the Orire abduction, Oladosun Timothy, says many students have returned to class after the rescue of those who were held captive, but fear and trauma remain among both pupils and teachers.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Timothy said academic activities have resumed, school work is ongoing, and examinations are about to begin. He added that the ongoing NECO examinations are also taking place as scheduled.
According to him, the release of the abducted students brought relief and happiness to the school community. However, he said many students are still worried about their safety and continue to ask when security personnel such as soldiers or police officers will be deployed to protect the school.
Timothy explained that teachers have been reassuring the students that the government is working to improve security. Despite those assurances, he noted that there are still no security personnel stationed at the school.
He also said school attendance has continued to improve since classes resumed. According to him, the number of students returning to school has increased every day, with more pupils coming back in large numbers as confidence gradually returns.
