According to a report by Al Jazeera, on October 14, 2025, Secretary-General of Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), Ziad al-Nakhalah, has issued a statement affirming that securing the release of the remaining Palestinian detainees is a top priority following the recent ceasefire agreement.
Al-Nakhalah praised the efforts and bravery of the resistance fighters, saying, “What has been achieved today would not have been possible without the men of the resistance and the bravery of the fighters on the ground.”
While acknowledging that the results of the ceasefire could have been better, he expressed cautious optimism about the balance of power shifting in favor of the Palestinian people, particularly in Gaza.
“We had hoped for better results, but our people are not far from realizing the balance of power and the many factors that have surrounded our people in Gaza in particular,” he said.
The Secretary-General also emphasized the ongoing commitment of the resistance to its prisoners, describing the liberation of the remaining detainees as a central mission: “The rest of our brave prisoners are a priority for the resistance.”
This statement comes amid ongoing tensions and recent hostilities in the Gaza Strip, where the PIJ has played a significant role alongside other Palestinian groups.
The ceasefire agreement marks a tentative step toward easing conflict, but al-Nakhalah’s remarks underscore the continued determination of Islamic Jihad to pursue prisoner releases and maintain pressure on Israel.
Al-Nakhalah’s comments reflect a broader narrative within Palestinian militant groups highlighting resistance, unity, and steadfastness in pursuit of their political and humanitarian goals.
The prisoner issue remains a key element in the conflict’s dynamics and a focal point for future negotiations and potential escalations. See, More, Here>>>>
