Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has endorsed a call by television journalist Seun Okinbaloye for Nigerians to unite against terrorism and rising insecurity across the country.
The exchange followed comments made by Okinbaloye during an episode of Politics Today, where he condemned the continued killings, kidnappings, and attacks on innocent citizens and urged Nigerians to put aside their differences in the fight against insecurity.
In a post shared on social media, the journalist lamented the persistent wave of violence and stressed that terrorism affects all Nigerians regardless of ethnicity, religion, region, or political affiliation.
“Enough is enough. The killings, abductions of innocent Nigerians, and the unleashing of terror on our people cannot continue. These senseless killings and heinous crimes must stop,” Okinbaloye wrote.
He further argued that national unity was essential in confronting the security challenges facing the country.
“Terror does not ask for your tribe, faith, region, or political affiliation before it strikes. Our response must be stronger than our divisions,” he stated.
The broadcaster also called on Nigerians to continue demanding accountability from leaders while remaining united against what he described as a common enemy threatening the country’s future.
“Criticise what must be criticised. Demand accountability where it is due. But above all, let us stand together,” he added, using the hashtag #UniteAgainstTerror.
Reacting to the message, Onanuga publicly echoed Okinbaloye’s appeal, highlighting the journalist’s call for unity as a necessary response to the security challenges confronting the nation.
“Encore, Seun: Today on Politics Today, I called on all Nigerians to put aside political, ethnic, and religious differences and stand united against the common enemy threatening our collective future,” Onanuga wrote.
The exchange has drawn reactions on social media, with many Nigerians expressing support for calls for greater national unity in addressing insecurity. Others, however, argued that unity must be accompanied by concrete actions from government and security agencies to tackle the root causes of terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping.
The comments come amid renewed concerns over security following recent reports of kidnappings, attacks, and killings in several parts of the country.
Political observers say the statements by both Okinbaloye and Onanuga reflect growing calls for a collective national response to insecurity, even as citizens continue to demand more effective measures from authorities to protect lives and property… Discover More
