Netanyahu Party Member Says “Trump’s Speech Is An Illusion Of Victory And A False Spectacle

According to a report by Times of Israel, on October 12, 2025, a member of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s own Likud party has announced he will boycott US President Donald Trump’s address to the Knesset, denouncing the Gaza ceasefire agreement as a dangerous illusion.

Likud MK Amit Halevi declared he will not attend tomorrow’s speech, which is scheduled to coincide with the release of hostages from Hamas captivity under the US-brokered ceasefire deal.

His absence marks a significant internal party division over the controversial agreement.

Halevi characterized Trump’s upcoming address as an “illusion of victory” and a “false spectacle,” stating he “will not be able to participate in the parliamentary gathering with US President Donald Trump and his team.”

The lawmaker delivered harsh criticism of the ceasefire terms, declaring that “this agreement is the opposite of victory.”

He called for honesty with the Israeli public, urging leaders to “bow our heads in pain and humility in the face of the military failure, learn lessons, and plan our steps to win in the future.”

In a scathing assessment of Israel’s concessions, Halevi accused the government of agreeing to “the establishment of a Palestinian state on ancestral land in Gaza” and permitting “antisemitic enemies Turkey and Qatar a foothold here.”

He further condemned the deal for leaving “Hamas and its neo-Nazi infrastructure intact at the height of their power.”

The Likud member expressed particular alarm about provisions allowing “thousands of arch-murderers” to return to Hamas ranks, warning they would continue the organization’s plan to annihilate Israel.

Halevi’s boycott adds to growing dissent within Israel’s right-wing coalition over the Gaza agreement.
