National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has outlined what he described as the core principles and priorities of the party, stating that the PRP remains focused on leadership reform, national security, economic recovery and unity among Nigerians.
Baba-Ahmed made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television on Sunday, May 17, 2026, while responding to questions about the ideological identity of the party. During the interview, the interviewer asked whether the PRP identified as socialist or leftist, arguing that ideology and political philosophy are important foundations for governance.
Responding, Baba-Ahmed said political labels can sometimes be misleading and insisted that the PRP should instead be judged by its principles and proposed policies. He said, “Let me break it down to you in very few sentences. Labels are deceptive. You can attach a label. Chinese Democratic Party, for instance. They say they’re democratic. This is a one-party state.”
The PRP chairman stated that the party is guided by five principles centred around restoring effective governance and accountability. He said, “Look, we are the only party as we speak now, 2026. We are identified with five principles. Every PRP person and everybody who knows us, we commit to restoring dignity, competence, integrity, and efficiency for leadership.”
He further stated that Nigerians would experience responsible and compassionate leadership under a PRP government: “And we say this to everybody. If you elect a PRP government, you can be sure that, by electing PRP, you are making a choice to have leadership become responsible to you. Competent and compassionate.”
On insecurity, Baba-Ahmed declared that Nigeria’s security challenges could be addressed within one year if the right leadership is in place: “The second thing, we commit to securing Nigeria. Nigeria will be secure in one year in this country. In one year. Well, it’s not magic. Believe me.”
He argued that insecurity in the country is largely driven by human actions rather than unavoidable circumstances. He said, “Nigeria has made this country insecure. And most people in positions of authority, or those who are in a position to know this, know that we’re insecure because Nigerians make us deliberately insecure.
“It is not a miracle that we suddenly woke up 10, 15 years ago and we found ourselves in this country where people die in their hundreds every day. It’s not true. You can’t fix this country,” he added.
Speaking on the economy, Baba-Ahmed said the PRP intends to build an economy that supports both poor and wealthy Nigerians. He said, “Number three, we say we can fix the Nigerian economy so that it caters from the extreme poverty to the interest of the wealthiest Nigerian who is working hard legitimately to earn his living.”
He also stressed the need for national unity and reducing ethnic hostility across the country. He said, “Number four, we say PRP government will work to remove the hatred and the antagonism that is in the heart of many Nigerians against each other. I have no business fighting an evil man or a Yoruba man because I come from the north..See More
