According to a report by Daily Post on Friday, May 15, 2026, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has stated that Nigeria remains fully prepared to deploy its military strength whenever necessary, insisting that the country still possesses the capacity to respond decisively to threats affecting peace and security within the African region.
Tinubu made the remarks during the second day of the Africa CEO Forum currently taking place in Kigali, where he addressed questions concerning Nigeria’s historical influence and leadership role in Africa.
Responding to a question about how Nigeria could regain the level of military influence and respect it once commanded across the continent, the president maintained that the country’s diplomatic and military capabilities remain intact.
According to Tinubu, Nigeria has continued to play an active role in preserving stability in West Africa and other parts of the continent whenever crises emerge.
He stated that the country has been involved in efforts aimed at preventing wider instability and restoring calm in troubled areas within the sub-region.
The president also referenced Nigeria’s involvement in regional security matters, including situations in neighbouring countries where intervention became necessary to maintain peace and prevent escalation.
Speaking further, Tinubu recalled a recent operation in Benin, which he described as a swift response against intruders threatening stability in the area.
“You had the Sudan crisis, we stabilized it and the entire West Africa to some extent,” Tinubu said.
“We recently stabilised Benin Republic. It was a quick action against the intruders. I didn’t waste time and didn’t need to ask anybody,” he added.
The president’s comments come amid ongoing regional security concerns and discussions about Nigeria’s leadership role in maintaining peace, security and political stability across West Africa and the African continent….See More
