Reactions have trailed the announcement by activist and politician, Aisha Yesufu, declaring her intention to contest for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) senatorial seat.
Yesufu, a former co-convener of the Bring Back Our Girls Movement and a prominent figure in the Obedient movement, unveiled her campaign poster while confirming her defection from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a statement accompanying the announcement, she said her decision was driven by her continued support for Peter Obi, whom she described as embodying the hope for a better Nigeria.
“The next couple of days will define the future of this nation. This deeper understanding is why I resigned from the ADC to join the NDC as I follow the leadership of HE Peter Obi,” she said.
Yesufu added that her move to the NDC marks a new phase in her political journey, noting that she will be contesting for the FCT senatorial seat currently occupied by Ireti Kingibe.
“This time I am joining the NDC not just as a member but as one running for the FCT Senatorial seat,” she stated.
She also highlighted her previous roles within the ADC, where she served in various capacities including sub-committee chair, deputy committee chair, and secretary, describing the experience as valuable.
“I have tidied up all my obligations to the ADC, ensuring a clean transition… I am grateful for the opportunity to have served,” she added.
Her declaration has sparked mixed reactions across social media and political circles, with supporters praising her activism and commitment to national development, while critics question her transition from civil society advocacy into partisan politics.
Observers say the development could set the stage for a competitive race in the FCT, as political alignments continue to shift ahead of future elections.
As of the time of filing this report, Senator Ireti Kingibe has not publicly responded to Yesufu’s declaration… See More
