Peter Obi: The Main Accusation Against His Candidature Was He Lacks Basic Support In The North-Tanko

In a recent interview shared by Arise News, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, provided clarification on the political direction of Peter Obi, following his reported exit from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

Tanko explained that the decision was largely influenced by concerns over ongoing legal challenges within the ADC, which he said created uncertainty around the party’s internal stability and electoral readiness. He suggested that the unresolved disputes and procedural complications within the party made it difficult for strategic political planning ahead of upcoming elections.

Speaking further, Tanko addressed a recurring criticism against Obi’s presidential ambition. He stated, “The major accusation against his candidature was that he does not have any basic support in the North.” According to him, this perception is gradually changing as Obi’s political influence continues to expand across northern Nigeria.

He noted that recent engagements and increasing grassroots participation in northern states indicate a shift in political alignment. Tanko argued that Obi’s message, centered on accountability, good governance, and national unity, is resonating beyond regional boundaries.

He maintained that the move to the NDC is aimed at ensuring a more stable and legally secure platform for political participation. Tanko added that the Obidient Movement remains committed to strengthening democratic values and building a broader coalition capable of addressing Nigeria’s governance challenges.

He concluded that Obi’s growing acceptance across regions reflects a maturing political movement focused on national integration rather than ethnic or regional divides….See More
