According to a report by Al-Jazeera on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2025, the Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), announced on Monday, Oct. 7, that its fighters launched a mortar attack targeting Israeli troops and armored vehicles northwest of the al-Shati refugee camp in Gaza City.
According to a statement released by the group, the assault was carried out in the early hours of the morning using multiple mortar rounds aimed at advancing Israeli positions. The Quds Brigades said the strike was part of ongoing operations against Israeli military units engaged in ground offensives across Gaza.
While the statement did not provide details on casualties or damage, it emphasized that the operation was a continuation of the resistance’s broader campaign against what it described as the Israeli occupation.
“The weapon of resistance was built to liberate our land and confront the enemy,” the group declared. “It will not be laid down until both of these objectives are fully achieved.”
The PIJ’s statement follows reports of intensified clashes in several parts of Gaza City, where Israeli forces have expanded ground incursions in recent weeks. Residents of the al-Shati area, one of Gaza’s most densely populated refugee camps, reported hearing heavy shelling and explosions throughout the night.
The al-Shati camp, also known as Beach Camp, has been a flashpoint in the ongoing conflict, with repeated exchanges between Palestinian resistance groups and Israeli troops. Israeli military sources have yet to comment on the PIJ’s latest claim, and independent verification of the incident remains limited due to restricted access to northern Gaza.
Founded in 1981 by a group of Palestinian students in Egypt, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad is one of the most prominent armed factions in Gaza after Hamas. The group’s central goal is the establishment of a Palestinian state encompassing the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and other territories under Israeli control. It has consistently rejected negotiations with Israel, maintaining that armed struggle remains the only viable path toward liberation.
Over the years, the PIJ has been responsible for numerous rocket attacks, ambushes, and cross-border operations targeting Israeli forces. The group maintains close ties with Iran and Hezbollah and receives political and material support from regional allies opposed to Israel’s policies in the occupied territories. See, More, Here>>>>
