According to a report by the Punch on Thursday, April 30, 2026, former presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dumebi Kachikwu, has stated that the Supreme Court did not endorse or recognise any faction in the ongoing leadership crisis within the party.
Kachikwu made the clarification in a statement released to journalists following the apex court’s ruling on the dispute, stressing that the judgment did not settle the question of legitimate leadership but instead directed the parties to return to the trial court for proper determination.
He explained that the Supreme Court’s decision essentially meant that the court avoided taking sides in the internal struggle, allowing the legal process at the lower court to continue without interference.
He said: “Today, the Supreme Court of Nigeria displayed King Solomon’s wisdom in refusing to be used as a tool of destabilisation by the David Mark-led group”
He further argued that the ruling only suspended immediate intervention in the matter, adding that both factions remain free to continue their claims while awaiting final judicial resolution.
Kachikwu compared the situation to a dispute between two parties claiming ownership of something that is yet to be legally established, insisting that neither side currently holds valid authority over the party structure.
He maintained that the Supreme Court did not instruct the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise any faction, countering what he described as misinterpretations of the ruling.
He also referenced earlier decisions from the Federal High Court, suggesting that the legal positions taken so far reinforce the view that the leadership dispute remains unresolved and subject to further judicial clarification.
The ADC crisis has continued to generate internal tensions, with competing groups laying claim to the party’s leadership structure ahead of future political engagements….See More
