According to Al Jazeera, on October 5, 2025, Khalil al-Hayya, the head of Hamas’s negotiating delegation, has made his first public appearance since surviving an Israeli assassination attempt.
The Palestinian group released a video message featuring al-Hayya, marking his first address after Israel’s missile strike targeted Hamas leaders in Qatar.
In the brief video, al-Hayya spoke to the public, reflecting on the ongoing violence. He said, “What I see every day of killing and destruction in Gaza makes me forget the pain of losing my children and loved ones,” underscoring the personal toll the conflict has taken on him.
The assassination attempt occurred on September 9, when Israeli airstrikes hit Hamas officials in Doha, Qatar’s capital, where they were discussing a US-proposed ceasefire plan.
The attack killed several key figures, including al-Hayya’s office director, Jihad Labad; his son, Homam al-Hayya; three aides; and a Qatari security officer.
This strike heightened tensions between Israel and Qatar, a country hosting Hamas leaders and playing a role in mediation efforts.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu later contacted Qatar’s prime minister to apologize for the airstrike and the death of the Qatari citizen, signaling attempts to manage diplomatic fallout.
Khalil al-Hayya remains a critical figure in negotiations over hostage releases and ceasefire discussions, and his survival keeps him at the center of ongoing dialogue amid the conflict.
The video appearance serves both as a personal statement and a political message reflecting the resistance and struggles faced by Hamas amid Israeli military actions. See, More, Here>>>>
