In a recent interview shared by Arise News, Emmanuel Orker-Jev spoke on the ongoing leadership crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), emphasizing the need for clarity from the nation’s apex court.
According to him, “The case of the ADC should be at the Supreme Court because the Supreme Court will not be persuaded by the things that persuaded the Federal High Court.” He argued that conflicting judgments from lower courts have contributed to confusion within political parties, especially in matters relating to internal leadership disputes.
The senator maintained that the Supreme Court of Nigeria remains the most reliable institution to resolve such disputes, given its authority and consistency in interpreting the law. He noted that lower courts, including the Federal High Court of Nigeria, may sometimes deliver rulings that create uncertainty due to overlapping jurisdictions.
Orker-Jev further stressed that timely judicial intervention is crucial, particularly as political parties prepare for upcoming electoral activities. He warned that prolonged legal battles could disrupt party structures and weaken democratic processes.
He also encouraged political actors to explore internal dispute resolution mechanisms but insisted that, where necessary, the Supreme Court should provide final guidance.
