Former Anambra State governor and Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has drawn attention online after congratulating Senator Tony Nwoye of Anambra North on his emergence as Senate Minority Whip in Nigeria’s 10th National Assembly.
In a message shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Obi warmly addressed Nwoye as his “dear younger brother” while celebrating his unanimous selection for the leadership role.
He described the appointment as an “elevation for more service to humanity,” emphasizing that the position comes with greater responsibility to serve Nigerians, especially those facing hardship.
Obi encouraged Nwoye to see the new office not merely as a political achievement, but as an opportunity to deepen his commitment to public service.
He specifically urged him to focus on improving the lives of the poor and vulnerable, noting that many citizens depend on leaders with integrity and compassion for hope and direction.
Senator Nwoye, a medical doctor by profession, was elected into the Senate in 2023. Though he was initially a member of the Labour Party, he recently defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
His emergence as Senate Minority Whip follows a series of defections in the Senate that altered the balance of minority leadership, ultimately leading to his unanimous endorsement.
In his remarks, Obi also stressed the importance of national unity and progress. He advised Nwoye to remain steadfast in promoting the well-being of Nigerians and to work towards building a stronger, more inclusive nation.
According to Obi, achieving a “new Nigeria” is possible when leaders remain committed to service, justice, and the collective good….See More
