Reactions Trail Nenadi Usman’s Claim That It’s Too Late For Peter Obi To Return To Labour Party

Reactions have continued to trail remarks by Nenadi Usman, who stated that it is too late for Peter Obi to return to the Labour Party.

Usman, the party’s Interim National Chairman, made the comment during an appearance on Arise News Primetime on Wednesday. She spoke while reacting to a recent court ruling that affirmed her leadership position within the party.

Usman noted that once a political party closes its membership register and submits its electronic register before primary elections, new members cannot be admitted. She stressed that the law mandates the closure of the register at least 21 days before primaries, leaving no room for late entries.

Her comments have generated mixed reactions across Nigeria’s political landscape. Supporters of Obi have challenged the claim, arguing that political parties often find ways to accommodate influential figures, especially in evolving political circumstances. Others, however, insist that adherence to established rules is necessary to maintain order and credibility within party structures.

Political analysts say the controversy reflects ongoing shifts within opposition parties as they prepare for future elections. The debate also highlights the strategic importance of party membership processes and legal compliance in Nigeria’s electoral system.

As of the time of filing this report, Obi has not publicly responded to the statement, leaving room for further developments as political alignments continue to evolve…See More
