SAD: Israeli Soldier Seen Smashing A Jesus Statue’s Head In Southern Lebanon

A verified photo showing an Israeli soldier using a sledgehammer on a statue of Jesus in Debel, a Christian village in southern Lebanon, has sparked widespread outrage and prompted an official investigation.

The image, shared by Clash Report during Israel’s ongoing ground operations against Hezbollah, was later confirmed as authentic by the Israel Defense Forces. Israeli leaders, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, condemned the act and pledged disciplinary measures, describing the incident as inconsistent with the military’s values.

The photograph reportedly captured an IDF soldier striking a statue of Jesus during operations in Debel, a predominantly Christian village near the Israeli border. The ground operations are part of Israel’s broader military campaign against Hezbollah fighters in southern Lebanon.

After the image began circulating widely online, questions were raised about its authenticity and the circumstances surrounding the act.

In response, the IDF confirmed that the photo was genuine and announced that an investigation had been opened into the conduct of the soldier involved.

Military officials stated that the behavior shown in the image does not reflect the values or code of conduct of the Israeli army. The IDF emphasized that its operations are directed at armed groups and not religious communities or sites.

Prime Minister Netanyahu also addressed the controversy, strongly condemning the destruction of religious property.

According to official statements, Israeli leaders made it clear that any action targeting religious symbols is unacceptable and would be met with appropriate disciplinary action once the investigation is concluded.

“This incident does not reflect the values of the Israel Defense Forces,” the IDF said in a statement confirming the probe.

Israeli officials further stressed that the military respects all religions and is committed to protecting holy sites wherever possible, even during active conflict.

The incident has reignited discussions about the conduct of troops in conflict zones, particularly in areas with mixed religious and civilian populations. Southern Lebanon is home to both Muslim and Christian communities, and Debel is widely known as a historic Christian village.
