According to a report from his official Facebook account on Monday, April 20, Prominent Islamic cleric Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Abubakar Mahmud Gumi has declared that Boko Haram insurgents no longer have any justification for killing, following Turkey’s increased humanitarian and military engagement in Nigeria.
In a recent Facebook post, Gumi praised Turkey for its assistance to Nigerian institutions, including Nile University, Nizamiya Hospital, and several secondary schools, as well as for slaughtering cattle for the poor.
“Marhabah to Turkey because their hands don’t have the blood of Allah’s servants,” he wrote.
The cleric’s comments came as a reaction to a BBC Hausa report that Turkey is set to establish a military training camp in Nigeria. A photograph accompanying the report showed Turkish military helicopters and soldiers in a training setting.
Gumi argued that with Turkey’s presence, Boko Haram can no longer claim to be fighting non-Muslims. He also expressed optimism that bandits could be persuaded to lay down their weapons.
“Now Boko Haram don’t have a clue to say they are fighting non-Muslims. And bandits, by the grace of God, they will be able to take care of them to drop their weapons. Hope this brings an end to this tragedy,” he stated.
The cleric also urged Nigerians to abandon immoral acts, warning that God could punish the nation for such behavior. He concluded with a prayer for peace.
