Sowore Drags MTN, Glo, Airtel, Starlink Over Dropping Calls, Vanishing Data and Throttled Speeds

Prominent Nigerian activist and 2023 African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has launched a scathing attack on major telecom providers, accusing them of exploiting subscribers with premium charges for unreliable services.

In a strongly worded statement on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, April 17, 2026, Sowore highlighted the frustrations faced by millions of Nigerians who depend on digital communication for business, survival, and civic participation.

Sowore specifically named MTN Nigeria, Airtel, and Globacom (Glo), alongside Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite service, as culprits. “Apart from @MTNNG, @Airtel, and @GloWorld, these terrible Nigerian telecoms companies, I also pay about £72 monthly for @elonmusk’s @Starlink, even @Starlink only the service still works only sporadically,” he stated.

The activist emphasized that Nigerians are being forced to pay high prices for substandard access in an era when reliable connectivity has become essential. “Nigerians are being forced to pay premium prices for substandard, unreliable digital access in a country where communication is now essential for survival, business, and civic participation,” Sowore declared.
