The Removal Of Joash Amupitan Is Not Going To Take Place’ — Oyakhire Tells Obi And Kwankwaso

In a recent interview on News Central TV, Dennis Oyakhire, an APC chieftain, spoke on the growing controversy surrounding the leadership of the Independent National Electoral Commission and the increasing calls by opposition figures for the removal of its chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan.

During the interview, Oyakhire stated, “The removal of Joash Amupitan is not going to take place.” He used the statement to respond directly to criticisms and demands from opposition leaders who have accused the INEC chairman of bias toward the ruling party.

He specifically referenced Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, noting that their calls for Amupitan’s removal reflect a broader pattern of political pressure often directed at electoral officials ahead of major elections.

Oyakhire maintained that the appointment of the INEC chairman followed due constitutional procedures and was approved by relevant authorities, making any attempt to remove him outside that process unrealistic and politically driven.

He further argued that the credibility of Nigeria’s electoral system should not be reduced to the actions or perceived affiliations of a single individual, emphasizing that institutional safeguards and electoral frameworks are designed to ensure transparency and fairness.

The APC chieftain also stressed that opposition parties should focus more on internal organization and election preparedness rather than directing attention toward the electoral umpire, which he described as a distraction from substantive political engagement.

He concluded by reiterating that democratic outcomes are determined by the strength of political participation and preparation, insisting that allegations alone should not be used to undermine established institutions or disrupt the electoral process….See More
