
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has stressed that his administration is built on professionalism, fairness, and accountability rather than personal loyalty. Speaking during an interview on Symfoni TV, Fubara used the occasion of the swearing-in of a newly appointed permanent secretary to restate his principles of governance.
According to the governor, he has always demanded that those who serve with him place integrity above personal interest. “I have never asked my commissioner or anyone who’s worked with me to please me,” Fubara declared, noting that his only expectation is that public officials act in accordance with the law and in the best interest of society.
He warned civil servants who had previously engaged in irregular practices that accountability would eventually catch up with them. “Your punishment will come. Just be prepared. I’m not interested in whatever was done. It wasn’t our fault. It was the situation that warranted it. But those things that were not done rightly, the records will be there and at the right time, I’ll be bringing them up one after the other,” he said.
Fubara further encouraged the new permanent secretary to remain steadfast in professionalism and not to succumb to pressures that could compromise his values. He added that if at any point he himself requested something unlawful, the official should boldly resist it.
