In a recent interview shared by Arise News, Political Adviser to the embattled National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Salihu Lukman, addressed growing debates around zoning and coalition-building ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during the interview, Lukman responded to questions about whether the ADC had made a decision on zoning the presidency to a particular region. He cautioned against premature conclusions, noting that such decisions must be carefully negotiated to sustain unity within the opposition.
According to him, “Assuming we dance to your tune and zone the presidency to the South, what would attract Kwankwaso to join the party?” He used the remark to highlight the complexities involved in building a broad political alliance capable of challenging the ruling party.
Lukman stressed that the ADC is currently more focused on consolidating opposition forces rather than rushing into zoning arrangements that could alienate key stakeholders.
