We’ll Put Sand Inside Their Garri, and That’s Exactly What We’re Doing. They Started It—APC Member

During an interview on Channels Television, Hon. Adamu Aliyu, an APC chieftain, reacted to recent political developments involving defections to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He made the statement in reaction to the defection of at least 13 members of the House of Representatives and nine senators from various parties, including some with prior APC ties, who have defected to the ADC.

Aliyu described the defections as a challenge to the party, noting that the movement of lawmakers and key figures has intensified political competition ahead of the 2027 general elections. He maintained that such actions have prompted a response from the APC.

He also stated that those who claim to be in opposition should remain committed to that role, rather than weakening other parties by drawing away their members. According to him, a credible opposition is essential for democratic balance, but recent actions suggest otherwise.

According to him, “Seun, I take exception to you or anybody who thinks that we are stopping them (the opposition). One day here, I said that we’d put sand inside their garri; that’s exactly what we’re doing. We’re not disturbing them.
