In a fiery public statement that has drawn widespread attention across Nigeria’s political landscape, activist and politician Omoyele Sowore challenged Yoruba self‑determination leader Sunday Igboho, asserting that he would not be intimidated by threats aimed at stifling political activity in the southwest, according to a video posted on his official YouTube account.
The confrontation stems from a widely shared video in which Igboho appeared to say that political campaigning in support of opposition figures including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party leader Peter Obi should not occur in Yorubaland ahead of the 2027 general elections. That threat, reported by local media, suggests Igboho has pledged support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and warned others against opposing his agenda in the region.
In a video posted on his official YouTube account, Sowore insisted that he and others would not be intimidated, citing his history of confronting security agencies on behalf of Igboho’s supporters in the past.
According to him, “Tell him (Sunday Igboho) that I’m in front of his house, and there’s nothing he can do about me or anybody for that matter. Look, on a serious note, I used to think that Sunday Igboho had a little bit of consciousness because when he was assaulted by the Buhari regime, I was the only person who went to the federal high court to go and meet the people that were arrested from his house after he had left Nigeria, and that was the day they were granted bail.
