According to a report by Al Jazeera, on September 30, 2025, Qatar’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, has responded firmly to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent apology, calling it a fundamental obligation rather than a gesture of goodwill.
In an exclusive interview with Al Jazeera, Sheikh Mohammed stated, “It is not a favour, it is the most basic of rights,” referring to Netanyahu’s acknowledgment of past actions and a commitment not to target Qatar again.
The Qatari leader’s remarks come at a critical juncture in the ongoing efforts to resolve the Gaza conflict. He confirmed that Egypt and Turkiye would be joining the mediation talks, which began today, signaling a broader regional push toward diplomacy and conflict resolution. Their involvement, he noted, marks an important step in enhancing regional cooperation to end hostilities.
As discussions progress, Sheikh Mohammed revealed that a peace framework is under consideration. Although still in its early phases, the plan includes key provisions such as a cessation of hostilities and a proposed Palestinian administration for Gaza.
He was careful to clarify, however, that this initiative is not tied to Israel’s involvement. “This has nothing to do with Israel,” he said, highlighting the desire for Palestinian-led governance independent of Israeli interference.
One of the most pressing unresolved issues, according to Sheikh Mohammed, is the question of Israeli military withdrawal from Gaza. While the ceasefire is a foundational element of the plan, the specifics around troop withdrawal remain a “question that requires further clarification and discussion.”
He further explained that, should the current plan gain consensus, Arab and Islamic nations are prepared to back implementation mechanisms aimed at supporting the Palestinian people. Qatar, he emphasized, remains committed to “shaping a path that preserves Palestinian rights.”
The evolving negotiations reflect cautious optimism, but the prime minister’s comments underscore the complexity of the situation. Critical points such as long-term security assurances, governance, and Israeli disengagement still require detailed dialogue among all involved parties.
