I Agree With Shehu Sani; In Northern Part, As Election Nears, There’ll Be Increase In Killings—Taofiq Raimi

Taofiq Raimi, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has raised a red flag over the historical spike in violence across Northern Nigeria as the country begins its approach toward another election cycle.

In a recent interview shared by Arise News, Raimi expressed deep concern that insecurity in the region often follows a calculated political calendar, intensifying just as the stakes for power begin to rise.

Raimi noted that the current surge in instability is part of a recurring trend that has plagued the North for years.

He aligned his observations with those of prominent activists and former lawmakers who have long pointed out the suspicious timing of these attacks.

“I agree with Shehu Sani; he said that in the northern part, as the election year approaches, there will be an increase in killings,” Raimi stated during the discussion.

By highlighting this connection, Raimi suggested that the unrest may not be purely coincidental or spontaneous.

Instead, he raised the critical question of whether “political interests may be indirectly fueling unrest” to manipulate the electoral environment or distract the voting public.

Beyond the immediate loss of life, Raimi warned that recurring violence carries a heavy democratic cost.

He noted that such instability “undermines public confidence” in both the government’s ability to protect its citizens and the fairness of the upcoming elections.

He concluded by reminding stakeholders that “sustained peace is essential for credible democratic development.” For Raimi, the fight against insecurity is not just a military challenge but a test of political will, especially as the nation prepares for the high-pressure environment of the next general elections…..See More
