According to a report by Al Jazeera, on September 30, 2025, the Palestinian political movement Fatah, which dominates the Palestinian Authority, has expressed cautious support for US-led efforts to end the war in Gaza and protect innocent lives.
A statement carried by the official Wafa news agency said Fatah is ready to cooperate with all parties to secure a ceasefire, allow humanitarian aid into the famine-struck enclave, ensure the release of captives and Palestinian prisoners, and establish international mechanisms to safeguard Palestinians.
Fatah’s statement also called for the release of frozen Palestinian tax funds, complete Israeli withdrawal from occupied territories, and measures to restore unity across Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem as part of a two-state solution.
The group voiced support for President Mahmoud Abbas’s pledge to implement reforms, including holding presidential and parliamentary elections within a year after the war’s end.
However, senior Fatah official Abbas Zaki issued a starkly different message in separate comments to local media, describing the US peace plan as a “document of surrender” forced on Palestinians without their consent.
Zaki warned that accepting such proposals would entrench humiliation, legitimise the Israeli occupation, and further fragment Palestinian unity.
He accused Washington and Israel of attempting to “liquidate the Palestinian cause” through the plan, suggesting that it undermines the Palestinian struggle for statehood and rights.
Zaki’s remarks highlight deep divisions within Palestinian leadership over the US peace proposal, contrasting with Fatah’s more measured statement of conditional cooperation.
This mix of support and criticism reflects the complex and sensitive nature of the peace process amid ongoing conflict.
While Fatah officially acknowledges the need for negotiations and humanitarian measures, some senior figures remain deeply suspicious of the intentions behind the international peace efforts.
