Presidency Debunks Viral Trump Post Criticising Tinubu Over Insecurity

The Nigerian Presidency has dismissed a viral social media post claiming that former U.S. President Donald Trump criticised Bola Tinubu over the country’s security situation. According to a report by Daily Post Nigeria on March 17, 2026, the government described the widely circulated message as false and misleading.

The post, which spread rapidly across multiple social media platforms, alleged that Trump labelled Nigeria’s security situation a “total disaster” and faulted Tinubu for embarking on a state visit to the United Kingdom amid ongoing violence in parts of the country. The message also claimed that the former U.S. leader called on Nigerian authorities to take urgent steps to address insecurity and strengthen border control.

As the claim gained traction online, it sparked widespread debate among Nigerians, with many users sharing the post while expressing concern over the country’s security challenges. However, the Presidency moved quickly to debunk the report, stating that there was no evidence the statement originated from Trump or any official U.S. government platform.

Reacting to the development, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, described the viral message as completely fabricated. He stated clearly that no such statement exists on official White House platforms or on Trump’s verified social media accounts.

“This post does not exist on any official White House platform or on any of President Donald Trump’s social media pages,” Dare said.

He further cautioned Nigerians against the spread of misinformation, stressing that unverified claims can create unnecessary panic and tension, especially at a time when the country is dealing with sensitive security concerns. He urged the public to verify information before sharing it, particularly when it involves international figures and national issues.
