They Have Never Appointed Igbo Or Yoruba Christians To Represent North-East Or North-West-Dokubo

According to a video posted on Facebook on Friday, March 13, 2026, Mujahid Asari Dokubo, the traditional ruler of Torusarama Piri in Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State, has voiced concerns over representation on the Nigeria Pilgrims Welfare Board. Speaking during a live broadcast, the former militant leader questioned the process through which individuals are selected to represent different regions on the board.

During the session, Dokubo drew attention to the person currently serving as commissioner for the South-South region. He expressed worry that the official representing the region is not originally from there. According to him, the commissioner is a woman from Borno State in Nigeria’s North-East, a situation he believes raises issues about fairness and proper regional representation within federal institutions. He argued that such arrangements are rarely seen in reverse, where people from southern regions are appointed to represent northern zones.

Dokubo also spoke about what he described as a broader trend in national appointments. He claimed that it is uncommon for Christians from the South-East or South-West to be chosen to represent northern regions such as the North-East or North-West. He stated that while northerners are sometimes appointed to represent southern regions like the South-East or South-South, the same practice is seldom applied in the opposite direction.

He maintained that the South-South has a sizeable Muslim population and that capable individuals from the region should be considered for such roles. Dokubo added that many Muslims from the area, including himself, have the qualifications and experience needed to serve on the board.
