Former NHIS Executive Secretary Professor Usman Yusuf has alleged that former Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai was the chief architect behind President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 presidential election.
Speaking in an interview with Daily Trust, Yusuf spoke on a long personal history with El-Rufai. “I know Governor El-Rufai — we went to Ahmadu Bello together about 50 years ago, in 1976. I know him. A very brilliant gentleman, and he has shown that. And he was the architect of Tinubu’s success. This is all politics, and it is obvious from the first day he was arrested at the airport,” he said.
Yusuf questioned the manner of El-Rufai’s arrest, arguing that a man who voluntarily returned to the country and whose family remains in Nigeria posed no flight risk and deserved to be treated accordingly.
He also condemned the ICPC’s move to secure an additional 14-day detention warrant, describing it as a clear sign that Nigeria’s anti-corruption agencies are being weaponised against opposition politicians rather than used to genuinely pursue justice….See More
