Armed bandits have reportedly attacked the Pali community in Alkaleri Local Government Area, killing a local vigilante member and abducting two children during a violent raid that occurred late Thursday night.
According to local sources, the attackers stormed the community located in Bauchi State, firing gunshots and causing panic among residents who fled their homes for safety. During the attack, a vigilante member identified as Yusuf Momo, popularly known as “Dan Banga Pali,” was shot and killed while attempting to defend the community from the armed assailants.
Residents said the bandits also abducted two children belonging to a local resident, Alhaji Manu Pali, before fleeing the area. In addition to the kidnapping, the gunmen reportedly looted food items, household goods, and other valuables from several homes during the raid.
Witnesses described the attack as sudden and terrifying, noting that the community has experienced increasing security threats in recent months. Many residents said they were awakened by gunfire and chaos as the attackers moved through the area.
Local community members said the death of the vigilante member has deeply shaken residents, as Yusuf Momo was widely known for his role in helping protect the area from criminal activities. His killing has further heightened fears about the safety of rural communities in the region.
Security challenges linked to banditry and rural attacks have continued to affect several parts of northern Nigeria. Criminal groups operating in remote areas frequently carry out raids on villages, targeting residents for kidnappings and looting. In many cases, victims are later released after ransom payments are made.
Residents of Pali community are now calling on security agencies and the government to strengthen protection in the area and ensure the safe rescue of the abducted children. Community leaders have also urged authorities to increase patrols and intelligence operations to prevent further attacks.
