US Intelligence Believes China Are Actively Developing A New Generation Of Advanced Nuclear Weapons

According to a report by The Times of Israel on February 21, 2026, US intelligence agencies have concluded that China is actively developing a new generation of advanced nuclear weapons.

Multiple sources familiar with Washington’s assessments indicate that evidence gathered since a secret explosive nuclear test conducted in June 2020 strongly supports this belief.

Beijing’s efforts focus on creating sophisticated delivery systems capable of carrying multiple mini nukes on a single missile.

The country is also working to produce tactical nuclear weapons, a category it has not yet fielded in its arsenal.

These low-yield tactical devices could serve as a potential response if the United States intervenes to defend Taiwan during a Chinese invasion attempt.

The Pentagon maintains a policy of not commenting on intelligence assessments linked to specific alleged nuclear test events.

This approach reflects the sensitivity surrounding such matters and avoids public confirmation or denial of particular claims.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Chinese Embassy in Washington firmly rejects the accusations.

He states that the United States has deliberately distorted and smeared China’s nuclear policy.

According to the spokesman, these allegations represent political manipulation designed to preserve American nuclear hegemony while deflecting responsibility for its own obligations in nuclear disarmament.

He further asserts that the claim of a nuclear test occurring in 2020 is entirely unfounded and lacks any credible basis.

The reported developments highlight growing concerns in Washington about the pace and direction of China’s nuclear modernization program.

Intelligence officials point to the 2020 event as a pivotal indicator of intent to move beyond traditional strategic deterrents toward more flexible and varied options.
