According to a report by the Times of Israel on Saturday 27 September, 2025, the United States of America says it will revoke Colombian President Gustavo Petro’s visa following remarks he made during an anti-Israel rally in New York on Friday.
According to a statement posted on X by the US State Department, the decision stems from what officials described as Petro’s “reckless and incendiary” comments – particularly his call for US military personnel to disobey their orders.
The rally took place just outside the United Nations headquarters, where, at nearly the same moment, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was speaking before the General Assembly. Petro, addressing the crowd, pushed for the creation of an international armed force aimed at “liberating Palestine.” His comments sparked immediate backlash in both diplomatic and online circles.
And that wasn’t all. Later the same day, during a separate event in the city, Petro went a step further, reportedly saying that Colombia was prepared to send volunteers to fight in Gaza – even suggesting that he himself would be willing to join the front lines.
The reaction from Washington was swift. “We will revoke Petro’s visa due to his reckless and incendiary actions,” the State Department said bluntly in its public post.
Petro’s critics argue that his rhetoric overstepped the bounds of diplomatic expression and veered dangerously close to encouraging insubordination within the US military. Supporters, however, claim he’s standing up for oppressed populations and challenging Western complacency. See, More, Here>>>>
