Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, an experienced Nollywood actress and filmmaker, has shared her view of her identity as being Hausa due to her education in the North, specifically in Kaduna.
In a recent interview with Channels Television, she mentioned that she also sees herself as Igbo because her husband is of mixed Igbo descent. Furthermore, she has starred in numerous films in the eastern region of Nigeria and possesses an Igbo name.
Omotola emphasized that she is Yoruba by heritage since both her parents are Yoruba. She expressed that these diverse connections enable her to feel like a true Nigerian who belongs to every region of the country. She is passionate about fostering unity among Nigerians and believes that love and collaboration can lead to national growth and success.
As Omotola put it: “I am Hausa because I studied in the north, specifically Kaduna; I identify with that. I am half Igbo because my husband is half Igbo, and I’ve acted in many movies in the east, plus I have an Igbo name. Also, I am Yoruba.”
