Riley Moore, the U.S. Representative for West Virginia’s 2nd congressional district, has declared that Nigeria’s unity remains firm despite ongoing security challenges.
His statement was published on his official X handle, following his recent visit to Nigeria, where he met with government officials, church leaders, humanitarian organizations, and internally displaced persons to assess the persecution of Christians in the country.
During his engagements, Moore emphasized that discussions did not seriously entertain the idea of dividing Nigeria. He explained that separatist movements undermine the safety of Christians, particularly in the North and Middle Belt, and warned that destabilization would embolden terrorist groups, making Nigerians more vulnerable.
He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting efforts that protect lives and promote stability, noting that the newly signed U.S.–Nigeria security cooperation agreement is a significant step toward tackling violence and strengthening relations between both nations.
His words,
“I have traveled to Nigeria and engaged in multiple high-level meetings with Nigerian officials, the Church, aid groups across the country, and IDPs, to get a better understanding of the rampant persecution of Christians in Nigeria. In my discussions, the idea of dividing the country has not come up in any serious way. Efforts to embolden separatists hurts Christians in Nigeria – especially in the North and Middle Belt.”
