Trump: I Don’t Sleep On Planes, I Like Looking Out The Widow Watching For Missiles And Enemies

President Donald Trump disclosed an unusual personal habit during the National Prayer Breakfast, revealing that he doesn’t sleep on planes because he prefers to remain vigilant, watching for potential missile attacks and enemy threats during his flights.

The revelation came as Trump recounted a visit to Iraq where he met General Kenneth “Raisin” Kane to investigate why the U.S. military was struggling to defeat ISIS. After landing following a grueling 20-hour flight, the general offered Trump quarters to rest before their meeting.

“Then he said, ‘Sir, if you’d like, you can go and sleep.’ You know, it’s a 20-hour trip. If you’d like, you can go and sleep. We have quarters prepared for you,” Trump recalled the general saying.

The President said he declined the offer, explaining his reasoning: “I said, ‘No, I don’t have to sleep. I’ve been on a plane sleeping for 20 I mean, I’m sleeping the plane.’ I don’t sleep on planes. I don’t like sleeping on planes, you know. I like looking out the window watching for missiles and enemies actually.”

Trump’s comments provided insight into his approach to security and his personal mindset during international travel, particularly to conflict zones. Rather than viewing flight time as an opportunity to rest, the President described maintaining a state of alertness and situational awareness.

The anecdote came within a broader story about Trump’s efforts to change military strategy against ISIS. He had traveled to Iraq after being told by generals that defeating the terrorist organization would take five years, a timeline he found unacceptable given America’s military superiority.

Upon meeting General Kane, Trump immediately pushed to begin their discussions rather than resting. “Let’s go right now,” Trump told the general, eager to understand why conventional military wisdom suggested such a prolonged campaign against an enemy using inferior weapons.

The President’s revelation about his plane habits reflects his characteristic concern with projecting strength and vigilance. Throughout his remarks at the prayer breakfast, Trump emphasized themes of military readiness, decisive action, and personal toughness in confronting adversaries.

Trump’s Iraq visit ultimately proved consequential. General Kane proposed a dramatically different strategy, attacking ISIS from multiple directions simultaneously using portable airstrips positioned throughout the region, rather than the politically correct approach of notifying foreign governments before strikes. The general predicted victory in four weeks, and Trump said the operation succeeded in three.

The President’s preference for staying awake and watching for threats during flights to dangerous regions underscores his hands-on approach to security matters and his reluctance to appear vulnerable, even during routine travel activities that most people, including other presidents, would use for rest during long international journeys.
