Orji Uzor Kalu: You Cannot Lable Us An IPOB Zone And Then Come Back To Campaign In Our Land- Youth Group

According to a report by Punch News, on Friday, February 6, 2026, a significant political rift has intensified within the Abia North Senatorial District. This escalating friction involves Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and the Ohafia Youth Association, stemming from unresolved grievances tied to the 2023 general elections and the shifting landscape leading toward the 2027 polls.

The youth organisation has reiterated its stance that the lawmaker is persona non grata within the Ohafia community, citing past actions that they believe brought hardship upon their people.

This public declaration was made during a gathering at the Zone 9 Police Headquarters in Umuahia, following an invitation prompted by a petition the senator reportedly filed against the group regarding allegations of cyberbullying.

Chika Nnate, acting as the spokesperson for the association, emphasised that the youth population across various Ohafia settlements has unified to demand accountability.

The core of their resentment traces back to the 2023 electoral cycle, during which the region was allegedly characterised as a hub for the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Nnate argued that this branding resulted in a massive deployment of security forces, which created an atmosphere of fear and effectively prevented many locals from exercising their right to vote.

“What we are saying is simple: you cannot label us an IPOB zone and then come back to campaign in our land,” Nnate said.

This sentiment reflects a deep-seated feeling of betrayal, as the youth believe the labelling was a strategic move that disenfranchised the electorate.

The association further contended that the heavy-handed security presence led to anomalies in the election results, claiming that several wards showed zero participation despite official tallies being released later. In addition to these electoral concerns, the Ohafia Youth Association expressed dissatisfaction with the level of representation they have received.

They alleged that the senator has consistently overlooked Ohafia in his developmental agenda, noting a lack of tangible constituency projects such as infrastructural improvements or social empowerment schemes.

During their demonstration, the youths carried signs demanding transparency and visible proof of any legislative interventions in the Ohafia Local Government Area.

The media office of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu dismissed these accusations as entirely baseless and deceptive. His representatives maintained that the senator continues to hold a strong relationship with the people of Abia North and is committed to the region’s progress.

They argued that his record of service remains inclusive of all areas within the district. Nevertheless, political analysts suggest that this confrontation is a precursor to the 2027 elections, highlighting a growing tension as different factions begin to position themselves for the next political cycle.
