Political analyst Mahmud Jega has alleged that there is a deliberate effort to exclude Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara from the 2027 gubernatorial race to enable FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to determine the state’s next governor.
Speaking in an interview with Arise TV, Jega outlined what he characterized as a strategic scheme to sideline the sitting governor. “There is an effort to scheme out Fubara so that when the time comes, Wike will now nominate the candidate of the APC, whether or not he is in the party, or even nominate a joint candidate for APC and PDP for governorship of Rivers State,” he said.
The political analyst dismissed arguments that discussing 2027 electoral prospects is premature, noting that President Bola Tinubu has effectively been campaigning for reelection since 2024.
According to Jega, various APC state chapters and youth organizations have actively promoted the president’s second-term bid. “All kinds of APC state chapters and youth groups have been campaigning for the president. In fact, until recently, all the streets of Abuja, from here all the way to the airport, had huge banners of the president’s re-election bid. All the other governors are campaigning except Fubara,” Jega stated.
