Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has opened up about one of the most painful times in her life. In a recent interview on The Breakfast Club, she spoke about how her private video was leaked in 2021 and how the experience changed her personally and professionally.
According to a report by Punch on Wednesday September 24, 2025, the Afrobeats star explained that the video was not released by mistake, as she was first told, but was actually shared as part of a bet by her former boyfriend and his friends. She said that learning this truth was heartbreaking and left her deeply hurt.
At the time, many people believed she had leaked the video herself to get attention. Others criticized her as a mother, saying her son would grow up ashamed of her. Tiwa said those comments were even harder to deal with than the tape itself.
She admitted that trying to pursue justice was too difficult because the process kept reopening old wounds. Instead, she decided to focus on moving forward. To cope, she poured her emotions into her music, although some songs from that period are still too painful for her to perform.
Despite the heavy backlash, Tiwa found strength from her family. She shared that her mother’s words of encouragement helped her heal, reminding her that what mattered most was her happiness and peace of mind.
Now 45, Tiwa has embraced therapy, remained celibate for three years, and learned to see love and intimacy in a different way. She continues to grow stronger, proving that even after painful experiences, it is possible to find healing and hope.
In her words, “My mom called me and said, ‘Don’t listen to them. I’m just happy that you’re enjoying yourself.’ Hearing my mom say that helped.” See, More, Here>>>>
