According to a report by Punch News, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reacted strongly to the ongoing strike by workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), insisting that the government would not be blackmailed into taking decisions it considers inappropriate. Speaking during a media interaction in Abuja, Wike dismissed threats by striking workers, declaring that governance of the nation’s capital would not be held hostage.
Wike stated that no group of workers has the power to “take over Abuja,” stressing that the administration remains focused on delivering infrastructure and reforms for residents of the FCT. He challenged those behind the strike to do their worst, saying the government would not be distracted by intimidation. “If you like, go and hire all the civil servants in the world and take over Abuja,” the minister said, emphasizing that authority does not lie with unions but with the government elected to serve the people.
The minister maintained that dialogue remains the best approach but warned that the FCTA would not accept actions capable of disrupting public order. He added that necessary steps were being taken to ensure essential services continue despite the strike.
