Speaking with TVC News, member of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council during the 2023 general election, Usman Okai Austin has shared his strong opinion on the ongoing wave of defections rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including the recent defection of Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Austin expressed concern over the state of affairs within the PDP, describing the situation as part of a larger political realignment reshaping Nigeria’s political landscape both at the state and federal levels. He noted that the internal crises within the PDP did not start today but can be traced to a critical point when the party leadership took a wrong turn. According to him, the decision to replace Iyorchia Ayu with Umar Damagun as the acting National Chairman marked the beginning of the gradual destabilization of the party’s structure and unity.
In his words, “Like I said, they’re playing a script. Before, we thought it was about Atiku and Wike’s 2023 crisis when Wike was denied the presidential ticket. We believed that after Atiku, the crisis would be over, but we discovered that the problem may not even be Atiku. There is a plan that the party should go down, and as you can see, what is remaining is mere sarcasm.”
Austin emphasized that the ongoing defections and internal wrangling are not coincidental but part of a calculated attempt to weaken the opposition and diminish the PDP’s influence ahead of future elections. He lamented that loyal party members who fought to keep the party strong are now watching helplessly as the system they built is being eroded by political manipulation and selfish interests.
He urged genuine party loyalists and stakeholders to wake up to the reality of what is happening within the PDP, stressing that unity and internal reform remain the only way to rescue the party from collapse. Austin’s statement reflects growing concerns among members who believe that the PDP’s current leadership crisis could have long-term effects on its survival and relevance in Nigeria’s evolving political structure.Continue, Full, Reading>>>>
