Jelili Adesiyan, former Minister of Police Affairs in Nigeria, has stated that he faced strong opposition during his ministerial screening at the Senate in 2014. He said all the three senators from Osun State were against his nomination.
In an interview with Edmund Obilo, Adesiyan said one of the senators, Adeyeye, was extremely hostile towards him. He said Senator Adeyeye bluntly told him to return home and said he would not be screened. Adesiyan stated that Adeyeye accused him of killing Chief Bola Ige and told him that nobody would allow him to enter the Senate chamber
Adesiyan said, “One was so vicious about me, that is Senator Adeyeye. I went to him and he said, ‘You better go home, nobody will screen you because you killed Bola Ige’. Senator Omoworare took me to him that they should listen to me. He lambasted me, he did not even allow me to talk. He said ‘You better go home, nobody will call you into the chamber'”
