According to a report by The Times Of Israel, during an appearance on Channel 12’s “Meet the Press,” Likud party Science and Technology Minister Gila Gamliel implied that Gaza will be rendered inhabitable once Israel’s military assault against Hamas comes to an end.
“140,000 Gazans have left since the beginning of the war; in the end it will not be possible to live in Gaza,” she said, referring to the heavy displacement caused by months of fighting. She restated her views on the territory’s and its people’s future in her remarks.
In the past, Gamliel has taken heat for supporting policies that some interpret as encouraging the forcible displacement of Palestinians. While Gaza was being rebuilt and modernised this past summer, she shared an AI-generated movie showing the city without its current inhabitants.
There was worldwide and internal outrage when she advocated in that post for the “voluntary emigration” of Palestinians from the coastal enclave. There will be much more discussion about the government’s plans once the conflict ends thanks to her most recent comments, both in Israel and abroad.
According to Gamliel, the operation’s long-term effects might extend well beyond the short-term goals of dismantling Hamas, even though officials maintain that this is the operation’s primary emphasis.
There are many who are concerned that if Gaza is portrayed as an inhospitable place to live, it would hinder future attempts at rebuilding, humanitarian relief, and political settlement. On the other hand, those who back Gamliel’s strategy say that these steps are essential for the security of Israel.
In light of the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the protracted nature of the conflict, the minister’s comments highlight the growing chasm between Israeli policy debates and global calls for lasting peace and reconstruction in the area. See, More, Here>>>>
