You Don’t Have To Support Fubara, But Forcing Him Out Over An Agreement Shows Poverty Of Logic -Inko

According to a report by News Central TV, on Friday January 2, 2026, in a stinging critique of the ongoing political warfare in Rivers State, Opunabo Inko-Tariah, a former Special Adviser to Nyesom Wike, has described the attempt to force Governor Siminalayi Fubara out of office based on a “one-term” pact as a logical and democratic failure.

Speaking on the deepening rift between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and his successor, Inko-Tariah argued that while political opposition is a right, attempting to bypass the electoral process through backroom deals is unacceptable.

Inko-Tariah clarified that there is no constitutional mandate for politicians to support a sitting governor. He emphasized that those who have fallen out with Governor Fubara have every right to challenge him at the polls.

“I’m not saying you must support the governor of the state; it is not a must,” Inko-Tariah stated. “If today you run your separate ways and you no longer want to support the governor, bring your opinions to bear. Do whatever you can legally, lawfully, legitimately to ensure that the governor does not win in the next upcoming election that is acceptable.”

However, the former aide took sharp aim at the narrative that the Governor should be barred from contesting a second term due to a supposed agreement reached with his predecessor under presidential mediation.

Inko-Tariah dismissed the idea of forcing a sitting governor out of a race as an affront to common sense and democratic norms.

“But to say that you want to plunk, you want to hinge the governor well or force the governor out, not to contest because of an agreement that was reached, I mean it’s sort of an equestrian poverty of logic,” he remarked.
