Veteran actor and legal practitioner Kenneth Okonkwo has called for investigations into what he describes as questionable expenditures during the Rivers State emergency period, specifically targeting a massive CCTV installation budget.
Speaking on Channels TV, Okonkwo continued his critique of external involvement in Rivers State affairs, highlighting the geographic origins of key federal officials who influenced the state’s destiny.
“Have you noticed that all the people that decided the destiny of Rivers State in this state of emergency were all strangers?” Okonkwo asked, before systematically identifying the officials involved. “Whether you call them President Tinubu from Lagos State or Osun as the case may be, the Senate President Akpabio from Akwa Ibom or the House of Representative Speaker Tajudeen from Kaduna State or the Chief Justice of the Federation from Lagos State.”
He characterized their involvement as fundamentally exploitative. “Now these people are all alien to Rivers State and they have come in to siphon the money of Rivers State,” he alleged.
Okonkwo then focused on what he described as a particularly egregious example of financial mismanagement. “22 billion naira was budgeted to put CCTV in Rivers State House, are you trying to see the private part of an ant?” he questioned, using colorful language to express his disbelief at the allocation.
The actor-lawyer directly challenged the justification for such expenditure. “What’s the meaning of that CCTV? What do you call that? Siphoning the money of the state,” he declared.
He specifically called for accountability from the administrator, stating, “He (Ibas) should be probed,” referring to the individual overseeing the emergency administration.
Okonkwo concluded by invoking fundamental democratic principles as the basis for his demand for investigation. “Accountability, transparency, inclusiveness, and innovation – these are the hallmarks of democracy. He has to be probed,” he emphasized.
The ₦22 billion CCTV budget allegation represents one of the most specific financial claims made regarding the emergency administration period, with Okonkwo positioning it as evidence of systematic resource exploitation disguised as security infrastructure development.Continue, Full, Reading>>>>
